Woo hoo!

By some miracle, I survived another crazy week! A couple of thoughts... I love Fridays (especially after 5pm). I love weekends. If ever you make people attend a strategic planning session, please be sure that it is either strategic or involves planning. Or at least let your staff wear "business casual". That's all. Oh, and a five minute time limit on any one person's talk-time would be swell.

In other news, congratulations Coltrane on doing such a good job growing! Gaining a pound and a half is quite an accomplishment in only a month! (Sure, I could gain the weight in only a day but I'm well over 8 pounds...)

Happy weekend! To those of you who have a 4-day, I'm mighty jealous but I can't complain, one more week until my vacation!!

An Inconvenient Truth

World still small, still can't cook

Unlike in the past, this time Ellen bumped into someone I know instead of the other way around. Who knew I would know two different teachers at an AP Stats Conference. Cool!

Unrelated question: should I wait until the stove cools down to clean the boiled-over milk from the surface? I know the answer is yes but isn't it going to be harder to clean then? Reason #743 I don't cook: too impatient to wait for the water/milk/etc. to boil. By the time it boils, I'm in the other room reading online completely unaware until I hear the spill-over fizzle.

Awesome!

So I was talking to The Walrus and he got all High Fidelity on me and decided to name the top three Canadian rock bands ever. Of course, I didn't even have a guess except to comment that I knew that Neil Young was Canadian and besides, he isn't a band. Anyway, the first was Triumph. Oh-kay. The second, I asked for a hint but The Walrus wouldn't give me one and instead blurted out "Rush". This offended me because I had just read him the following news straight from Josh Marshall :

"Sources have confirmed to CBS4 News that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been detained at Palm Beach International Airport for the possible possession of illegal prescription drugs Monday evening. Limbaugh was returning on a flight from the Dominican Republic when officials found the drugs, among them Viagra."

The Walrus could have at least come up with the clue: First name of hypocrite busted today for illegal prescription drugs including Viagra. I mean, come on, the opportunity was perfect! Even google practically links the two together. The first hit is for the band, the second for the blowhard (who I will not link to).

Oh, the third band? Loverboy. Somehow Barenaked ladies didn't make the cut.

Remember, this is not MY list. I don't know music before the 90s and I don't know good music before 2001.

Ultimate recap

I just got home from summer league. We lost both games but we played well most of the time and my team is cool so I had fun. Halfway through the first game a guy on the other team showed up -- he was tall and looked fast and had a Florida shirt on. "Hey, do you go to Florida?" I asked. "Yeah" he said, "Do you go there?" "Um, I did but I graduated in '97." Should I feel old for graduating college 9 years ago or young for being mistaken for a college student? Btw, I found out that Florida's men's ultimate team won college nationals and the Florida women qualified for nationals the first time. Go Gators!

The highlight of the second game was all five feet of me "skying" over a tall, fast guy for a score. (LA folks, I swear the guy is a Frosty clone here in the Nutmeg State.) It was cool. After taking the winter off (thanks to the astroturf taking out my ankle in Feb.), it's great to play again. I didn't realize how much I missed playing. Viva ultimate! Viva spirit!
